Sharon Stone’s Post-Stroke Visions

In 2001, actress Sharon Stone suffered from a stroke. During an MRI to help diagnose her condition, she recounts passing out and finding herself surrounded by a bright light. Speaking with Oprah Winfrey, she described the experience as “passing up.” She recounts seeing and speaking with people who have passed on. Stone described the entire experience as extremely calming. She says that in that moment she felt an incredible sense of well-being. Though death seemed very near, she found it seemed safe, gentle, loving, and okay.

Following her experience, Stone began participating in stroke awareness campaigns and has said that her near-death experience was so profound that she will never be the same again.

Jane Seymour’s Penicillin Reaction

Jane Seymour, best known for her role as Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman, suffered a severe allergic reaction to penicillin that almost claimed her life. During the experience, she recounts rising from her body and looking down on it and the surrounding room. From her vantage point in the corner, she watched as others tried to resuscitate her body. She says that during this time she pleaded with God to return her to her body. She believes that she died for about 30 seconds.

Elizabeth Taylor’s Five-Minute Death

During a surgical procedure in the late ‘50s, doctors pronounced actress Elizabeth Taylor dead for about five minutes. During this time, she recounts speaking with the spirit of her dead husband, Michael Todd. Though she wanted to stay with Todd, she says that he pushed her back to her life, telling her that she had more to accomplish. Though she did not speak of the event initially, she would later share it with AIDS patients, reassuring them that she was not afraid of death, and neither should they be, because she had been there.

Donald Sutherland’s Sleep Starved Experience

In 1979, actor Donald Sutherland suffered from meningitis. He described his near-death experience as floating above his body surrounded by a soft blue light. He speaks of moving down a long tunnel away from the bed before returning to his body. Since the experience, the Hunger Games star, now known best as President Snow, has said that having this near-death experience has prevented him from sleeping deeply ever since.

Near-death experiences can range from deeply calming brushes with the other side to intense experiences that affect your ability to get a good night’s sleep after the traumatic event.
