Change Your Mood with Yoga

Child's pose can you help you relieve stress and tension
Child's pose can you help you relieve stress and tension

For years, yoga instructors have advocated the use of yoga to improve health and moods. Thankfully, you don't have to enroll in an expensive class to enjoy the positive benefits of yoga. Even if you're a beginner, these four yoga poses can help you de-stress and improve your mood.

Child's Pose to Relieve Tension

If you're feeling tension in your shoulders, neck, or back, child's pose can help you relax and stretch out your muscles. Get on your hands and knees, keep your feet together, and spread your knees until they're about hip distance apart. Extend your arms and your torso forward until your forehead is resting on the floor. Keep stretching your arms all the way out in front of you.

Hold this pose for one to five minutes, as you focus on each inhalation and exhalation. Child's pose is also a resting pose that can help calm your nerves, lower blood pressure, and relieve fatigue and stress.

Legs-up-the-Wall Pose for Sleep Problems

Do you have problems sleeping at night? If dreams are keeping you awake, you can have a nightmare analysis to better understand what is bothering your subconscious. If stress is making you toss and turn, you can try the legs-up-the-wall pose to soothe your body and mind before bed.

Start with your buttocks against a wall and then extend each leg one at a time up the wall. Extend your arms along the side of your body and leave your palms facing up. In this pose, close your eyes and breathe deeply for 5 to 15 minutes. If your hamstrings feel tight, slide your buttocks further away from the wall to reduce the angle.

Big Toe Pose to Calm Your Stomach

Digestive problems can cause any mood to sour. Not only does the big toe pose relieve stress and calm the brain, it also stimulates the kidneys and liver, which can improve digestion. Start with your feet hip distance apart and slowly bend forward at the hips. Use your index finger, middle finger, and thumb to wrap around your big toe. Don't bend your knees if you can't reach down far enough to reach your toes. Instead, loop a strap under the balls of your feet and use that as a handhold. Hold this pose for one minute.

Corpse Pose for Complete Relaxation

Whether you want to relieve stress, help your insomnia, lower your blood pressure, or reduce a headache, corpse pose can help. Start by sitting on the floor with your feet on the floor and your knees bent. Extend each leg individually, lie back and rest your head on the floor, and relax both arms by your side. Focus on your breathing, relax each muscle, and hold for five minutes. Corpse pose is one of absolute relaxation. If you're having trouble clearing your mind, consider live psychic advice to help you understand what's troubling you so that you can completely quiet your mind.

If you're looking to improve your mood, spend a few minutes each day practicing these yoga poses. Enjoy all the benefits and relaxation these moves have to offer.
