Dealing with Poor Body Image

September 15, 2020
Do you have poor body image?
Do you have poor body image?
Most girls have an attribute they would change in a heartbeat. From wishing for blue eyes instead of brown to praying for their frizzy hair to turn straight, women are often their own worst critics.

Of course, sometimes being down on oneself can morph into self-loathing. And while most people grow out of this phase, this is something no one should have to face.

If you're one of the millions of females who pick their appearance apart on a daily basis, it's important to understand that what you're feeling is normal. Even the most popular girl in school - the one with the flawless skin, bright golden hair and super-thin bod - believes there's something that she could change.

Still, try to take a step back and look at yourself from a different angle. Those attributes you despise could be envied by someone else. Read our steps below to learn how to get over body image issues.

Steps to Deal With Body Image Insecurities

Take a Break from Social Media

Social media can be an extremely harmful platform when we have body image insecurities. The constant feed of superficial Instagram model pics and celebrity images can make anyone feel bad about themselves. Remember, most of these “picture-perfect” images are fake or altered. Nobody and no one’s life is perfect! If you find that social media provokes negative thoughts or feelings, take a break by limiting your daily use or deleting the app for a while. Taking a mental break from social feels really good no matter what your going through.

Stop Comparing Yourself

Stop comparing yourself to others, as every BODY is different. If you find that you’re constantly comparing your appearance to someone else’s, it’s time to take action to break this harmful habit. Comparisons kill your joy, magnify negative thoughts and feelings of resentment towards yourself and others. By nature, when we compare ourselves, we focus on our worst and assume the best in others. This thought process is unfair and a complete waste of energy. Remember, you are unique, and you need to embrace and appreciate your individuality!

Stay Active

Engaging in physical activity is a wonderful way to improve your body image insecurities. During and after physical activity, your body releases endorphins, which stimulate those feel-good vibes. Some active options could include walking, yoga, or light weightlifting. Staying consistent with your physical activity has an abundance of health benefits and is an instant win for conquering negative body thoughts.

Keep a Journal

Keeping a journal of your positive thoughts and goals puts good energy out into the universe. Every day write down one thing that you love about yourself and why. Then take that positive thought and repeat it to yourself anytime you start to feel bad. Journaling is also a great way to capture your goals for life, career, relationships, etc. These goals will help you build confidence, motivation, and take your mind off your body insecurities because there is more to life than what the scale says!

Practice Daily Affirmations

Each morning before you get out of bed, choose an affirmation to repeat throughout the day, such as, “I am loved, I am worthy, I am beautiful inside and out.” By repeating a daily affirmation, you set the tone for a positive outlook and can use this affirmation to shield against negative thoughts. You can make up your own daily affirmations (don’t forget to write them in your journal), get an app, or contact a Psychic who specializes in self-love and care.

Positive Support and Friends

Surround yourself with people that lift you up and move on from those who bring you down. When you’re battling body image insecurities, you need to choose your friends wisely and spend time with people who support you. If you’ve got a friend who makes you feel bad about yourself, it’s okay to walk away from that relationship. Build friendships with positive, likeminded individuals who share similar interests and are there for you when you need them the most.

If you're still having problems accepting yourself for who you are, speak with an intuitive life coach. Our psychics will provide the support you need in order to realize that every girl out there possesses true beauty.
