Revenge Porn: What Every Woman Needs to Know to Protect Herself

Don't wait until it's too late to protect yourself.
Don't wait until it's too late to protect yourself.
Picture this: you're just getting over a breakup. Of course, you're upset, but life goes on. You're getting ready for work one morning, and a friend calls you up. She says her boyfriend found pictures of you naked on some website you've never even heard of. You've never posed nude ... but wait. You did text a few sexy pics to your ex right before you broke up, while he was visiting relatives in Nebraska. What's just happened to you? It's called revenge porn, and it's not as uncommon as you'd like to think.

What Revenge Porn Is
There are a number of websites that exist for no other purpose than for angry ex boyfriends, ex husbands, and jilted lovers to post nude photos of the object of their anger online to humiliate and shame them. Most of these women sent the photos to the man during a long-term, committed relationship, but after the breakup the men turn to these sites to post those photos shared in privacy for revenge. Hence, the term revenge porn

Who Revenge Porn Happens To
Revenge porn doesn't just happen to trampy women who sleep around with everybody. This is happening to the sweet girl next door. These aren't photos of women who posted nudies on Facebook, or stripped naked at a wild party. These women took tasteful, sexy photos of themselves to share with the men they were in relationships with. That's why revenge porn is so very hurtful. Clairvoyants can sometimes predict who might become a victim of revenge porn.

The Victim's Recourse
Unfortunately, revenge porn is not illegal in most places. Sacramento, California and a handful of jurisdictions across the U.S. are beginning to recognize the problem and take legal measures to protect the women involved and prosecute the men. However, unless you live in one of these few locations, you are currently unprotected by any law. Since the women hand over the photos to the men willingly, the photo becomes their property, and they can do whatever they want with it. The only exception is if the woman is underage, in which case she can be prosecuted for distributing child pornography, even though the photo is of herself.

How to Prevent Becoming a Victim
To date, there is a lot of talk about preventing revenge porn, but no real consensus on how to go about it. For now, women have to be their own protectors.

   •Avoid sexting
•Never allow anyone to photograph you naked
   •Don't take naked selfies
•Keep your cell phone pass code protected
•Get a love tarot card reading to assess your relationship

In order to assure you don't become a victim, you have to make sure the photos never get taken. Then you don't have to worry about where they'll end up. Though sexting is popular, this is how the majority of victims end up handing over the photos that get turned into revenge porn. Don't take naked selfies, and don't let anyone else take naked photos of you. Always keep your phone pass code protected so nobody can get access to any photos you do have.

Unfortunately, this is an era where trust is hard to come by. Most of the men who post these photos weren't abusive or hurtful boyfriends -- they just became vengeful when the woman ended the relationship. Save your trust until you truly get to know someone, and don't give them any potential ammo before you do.
