Throwing a surprise party for a friend is fun!
Everybody loves to be pampered on their birthday! And there's only one thing better than a birthday party - a surprise birthday party. If you want to show a friend how much you love her, throwing her a surprise party with all of her friends in attendance is a great way to remind her that you're still BFFs.
Some people like to really commit to the bluff, and might even pretend that they've forgotten about their friend's birthday entirely. This is a bit of a risk, as your friend might be down in the dumps all day if she thinks that no one remember her big day - even if you're planning on surprising her later. If you think your friend can handle worrying that she's been forgotten about for a few hours, it'll be worth it when she sees how much effort you've actually put into making sure she has the best day ever.
If your friend is hurt easily, it's better to pretend that you're asking her out to a small birthday gathering. Suggest that she meet you at your place for a drink to celebrate that she's turning a year older, then surprise her with a giant party when she shows up at the door. She'll be thrilled to see that everyone she cares about showed up to celebrate with her.
