Should you delete your social networking profile before an interview?
Interviewing for a new job is exciting, and in today's employment market, you really can't afford to be unprepared for your meeting. Getting a job in these difficult times is no small feat, so you'll want to do everything you can do to give yourself the best shot possible - which might include getting rid of your Facebook profile.
No doubt you've seen plenty of people disappear from the social networking site while applying to graduate school or interviewing for jobs. It is perhaps the employment market's worst-kept secret that just about every employer checks out potential hires on Facebook before extending a job offer, so it makes sense that some people would choose to just get rid of their profiles rather than risk losing a job over a single picture or status update.
If you can stand to be without your Facebook for a few weeks, we recommend deleting your profile for the duration of your search. Sure, it may not be the most convenient thing in the world, but we promise you'll be glad when you don't miss out on an excellent position because of a silly photo caption.
