The ABCs of Astrology
 Millions of people throughout the world believe in astrology. We’ve all read our own horoscope at some point or another. For some of us, we dutifully read it on a daily basis as a guide for what’s to come or simply as a source of entertainment while we’re waiting in the check out line at our local supermarket. But, did you know that the study of Astrology has been around for thousands of years? The ancient Chaldeans and Assyrians engaged in astrological divination some 3,000 years ago. By 450 B.C. the Babylonians had developed the 12-sign zodiac, and the Greeks during the time of Alexander the Great provided most of the fundamental elements of modern astrology as we know it today.
What exactly is Astrology?
In astrology it is believed that the positions and movements of celestial bodies (the stars, planets, the sun and moon) have a profound impact on our lives and the events that surround us. In western astrology, there has historically been a debate among astrologers whether or not celestial bodies are only signs of events or the actual cause of events.
Horoscopic Astrology
The most common form of astrology that we are all familiar with is known as Horoscopic astrology and can be divided into four specific branches: Natal, Katarchic, Horary, and Mundane astrology. Natal astrology is the study of a person’s natal chart given a person’s date, time, and place of birth to reveal personality characteristics and key dates of interest. Katarchic astrology includes both electional and event astrology. Electional astrology is used to determine the best time to begin a desired undertaking. Event astrology seeks to understand an actual event from the time it took place. Horary astrology seeks to answer a specific question posed.
