Balance of the Autumnal Equinox
Technically , the Autumnal Equinox ( equinox literally means equal night ) is the moment when the sun crosses the equator moving southward, welcoming the shorter days and longer nights of winter. Spiritually, the equinox is a moment of harmony and balance as the season of harvest comes to a close and the season of reflection begins.
Historically, cultures whose rhythms flow in sync with agricultural harvests observe the Autumnal Equinox as a time of the Second Harvest—a time when the land overflows with nature's gifts. This is a time to feast and celebrate the bounty of the previous year while preparing for the winter months ahead.
Like any time marker, the equinox offers a possibility —the possibility to match the rhythms available to you through tradition and collective experience. Though the extent to which most of us honor the seasons is mostly reflected in wardrobe changes we make to accommodate the weather, consider what is to be gained by harmonizing with the essence of the sun cycles.
