We often go through life focused on the tasks at hand. We busy ourselves with work and responsibilities thinking that tomorrow we’ll take the time to enjoy ourselves and spend quality time with those we love. Tomorrow comes only to repeat our routines. We never seem to have enough time to really enjoy life and to truly appreciate those who surround us. We focus ourselves on materialism and strive to have more. We convince ourselves that accumulating material objects is the path to happiness. But, the most valuable possession that we commonly share on this beautiful planet is the gift of time. We forget that our time on earth is precious and finite.
Unexpectedly, life has a way of reminding us that time is indeed finite. Loss is a part of everyone’s life. Not only do we experience the physical loss, but we also face the loss of what could have been and what we’ll miss. We are reminded of a loved one’s absence – especially during special events like holidays and birthdays. What would life have been like had our loved ones survived? What would we have done differently?
Recently, I experienced the loss of a close loved one and we continue to grieve her passing. Through her passing I am reminded that life is precious and finite – that the true path to happiness is in fully sharing your life with those you love and making the most of every minute. So be sure to cherish life and those you love. For we never know when tomorrow becomes too late.
