On Thursday, December 21st at 7:22 pm EST winter officially begins in the Northern Hemisphere. The sun will make its lowest arc across the horizon during the shortest day of the year marking the Winter Solstice.
Technically, the Winter Solstice (solstice literally means sun standing still) is the moment when a hemisphere of the earth is leaning farthest away from the sun.
The Winter Solstice has been observed spiritually for thousands of years. Recognition of the solstice began as humans became aware of the sun's importance to and impact on agriculture. Subsequently, the end of shorter days and return of the sun signify nature's rebirth.
Before we had clocks and watches, there was Stonehenge…
Human identification of the solstice was historically so important that some of the most amazing and mysterious human architectural achievements- Stonehenge and Newgrange in Europe, the Sun Dagger in New Mexico- were built to align with the position of the sun during the solstices and equinoxes.
Inherent in the collective celebration to honor nature's rebirth (including yours!) is the opportunity to make completions with events that have transpired during the prior year. If you find that your attention is still occupied with specific events from this year to the extent that you are distracted from fully living your life, getting a psychic reading can help you:
- clear blocks that keep you from creating the life you want,
- find resolution or closure for past heartbreaks,
- and receive healing and guidance for your life's lessons.
A little spiritual housecleaning will get you off on the right foot for 2007—have a Happy Solstice! |
